[edit] Villains need rules
I've been giving some thought over how this page and Villain articles in general should be handled. Right now it's a bit all over the place. This page is heading down the path of just being too big and it's usefulness declines at that point. We need some sort of system as to who gets their own page and who just has a listing here. Right now it's a mixed bag and there's some repetition between this page and the main articles. This should probably be judged based on whether it's a speaking role, and how often the character appears in the show.
In the meantime I think links to villains should just be done by linking to a page with the villain's name instead of an entry here. If the villain is deemed minor, their article is just a redirect to the Villain list. If the villain becomes more major, or reoccurs in the future, the redirect can more easily be changed to a full blown article. Pictures should be kept to the main page if that character has an article. Snapshots of minor villains can be kept here. Other thoughts and opinions? -Nais 01:38, 7 August 2008 (UTC)
- That's what I was afraid of, but some of the characters that are mentioned in episodes that I think need mentioning sometimes don't merit their own page so this is where I end up sticking them in., and whenever I talk about them in an episode synopsis I just redirect back here. I'm all for a more organized villains page, I just need some better guidelines. DoomsDayDevice 19:31, 7 August 2008 (UTC)
- Hey Nais, I was thinking, why not just eliminate the character that have their own character pages from here, make a separate page for servitors, and another one for elder villains? DoomsDayDevice 16:20, 9 August 2008 (UTC)
- I was thinking along similar lines, just making this page a place for minor villains. And we can keep all the pictures for the minor villains here. We can later spin off new pages if it still feels too big. Villainous devices also feels kind of out of place here. I just don't want this page being a big list, the Villains category is just fine for that.
- Also right now the intro says that the villains are ordered in appearance, but I think that was lost somewhere along the way as some clearly aren't like that. We can ditch that though and organize in some other fashion, maybe group them by the episode they first appeared in. It's nice to have someone to bounce ideas around with, btw, thanks for keeping up. - Nais 16:51, 10 August 2008 (UTC)
Not a problem, Nais, I'm just trying to do my part for Venture fandom. As far as listing the minor villains, I was thinking along the lines of what episode they appeared in too, or even in alphabetical order. I was also thinking that the character pages can also have what episodes that character has appeared in, but one thing at a time. :) DoomsDayDevice 23:27, 10 August 2008 (UTC)
- I think that maybe we could keep the major villains listed here, but just have them as links to their main page. That way this can still be a pretty comprehensive list without just repeating info in other articles.
- The episode listing on character pages is a good idea and I had thought about it in the past, but never got around to implementing. I couldn't decide on a good place to put it. The character box would look crowded with another list in there. Maybe a footer-like section at the bottom of pages that list all appearances. I'll give a shot at designing something like that. -Nais 19:13, 29 August 2008 (UTC)
- Cool. I'll start to edit out some of the information on the villains who have their own page. As far as an episode appearance listing on the character pages, I had thought of something along the lines of the "Voice Talent" box in the Episode Guide synopsises. -DoomsDayDevice 22:35, 29 August 2008 (UTC)
- What do you think about the change, Nais? If you don't like it, you can revert. The other thing I thought about a little bit was you actually having to click on the villain's name to see a picture of them. Thoughts please? -DoomsDayDevice 00:44, 30 August 2008 (UTC)
- In b4 restore. Ha, you people think restoring something is an all day thing when all Nais needs to do is press a button and everything comes back.
